F&H Porter NovelliMomentive Performance Materials announced the launch of a new product family of liquid silicone rubber (LSR) that offers lowest compression set. Its first commercialized grade Silopren LSR is selflubricating with a nominal hardness of Shore A. Based on new technology development, Momentive Performance Materials succeeded to get the compression set  without postcuring down to , while maintaining the excellent mechanical properties of this LSR grade. This new material from Momentive Performance Materials targets the market of connector seals and cable assemblies. The overall increase in temperature under the automotive hood automotive currently drives material upgrades in this market. “This material powers innovation”, said Oliver Franssen, Market Development Manager Automotive.

It helps automotive designers to focus on true sealing performance while trying out better approaches of seal design and material weight saving. Momentive Performance Materials has always been in a technology leading position in this market segment. This new development helps our customers to stay  ahead of their competition, also in the future. compression set without postcuring is a milestone in LSR development.” Silopren LSR contains of a special silicone fluid, which migrates to the surface of the molded part over time and provides a selflubricating effect. This effect helps the assembly of the connectors (lowest insertion forces, minimized risk of seal damage or deformation). All LSRs have excellent moldfilling characteristics. This makes molding of complex parts, like single wire seals, cushions and frame seals for connectors, easy. At the same time, it provides very fast cure times for high throughput in a mass production environment. The elimination of the postcuring process reduces costs and shortens the control chain significantly to some minutes only.Momentive’s LSR grades are used to produce highperformance molded articles for various industries and applications.

Examples are seals component parts for the automotive industry, baby bottle nipples and pacifiers for the infant care industry, components and seals for healthcare and insulators and cable accessories for high voltage applications in the electrical industry.Press Contact Momentive Performance MaterialsMomentive Performance Materials GmbHRobert ScheibCommunications Leader  Business OverviewMomentive Performance Materials was created from the sale of GE Advanced Materials and its former Joint Ventures GE Bayer Silicones and GE Toshiba Silicones to Apollo Management, L.P. in December . Momentive is the world’s secondlargest producer of silicones and silicone derivatives and a global leader in the development and manufacture of products derived from quartz and advanced ceramics. Silicones are a multifunctional family of materials used in thousands of products and serve as a critical ingredient in many construction, transportation, personal care, electronic, consumer and agricultural uses.

Silicones are generally used as an additive to a wide variety of enduse products in order to provide or enhance certain of their attributes, such as resistance (heat, ultraviolet light and chemical), lubrication, adhesion or viscosity. Some of the most wellknown enduse product applications include bath and shower caulk, pressure sensitive adhesive labels, foam products, cosmetics and tires. Our Quartz division manufactures quartz, specialty ceramics and crystal products for use in a number of hightechnology industries, which typically require products made to precise specifications. These materials solutions are used as springboards for innovation in hundreds of consumer and industrial applications ranging from car engines to biomedical devices to integrated circuits. Industries served include aerospace, agriculture, appliances, automotive, construction, electronics, furniture and furnishings, healthcare, home care, industrial, lighting, packaging, personal care, plastics, semiconductor, telecommunications, tire, transportation, and water purification.
